Gianna De Grace

Mental Health Counselor Student Intern

I am a passionate, dedicated mental health professional whose goal is to empower you to achieve your goals and provide support throughout the journey of life. I primarily adopt a collaborative, strength-based approach to counseling that helps guide my clients to utilize resources they already possess and develop those that they do not.

I believe people naturally strive to be better but development, unconscious drives, and societal conditions may prevent the achievement of goals and feeling as though they belong. Creating a safe, supportive, non-judgmental space is incredibly important to me, to ensure my clients can explore and process their thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a setting free from fear.

My specializations and modalities are tailored to address the unique needs of each client, empowering them to achieve personal growth and well-being, while honoring the unique experiences of each client. Whether you are feeling frustrated with repetitive patterns, are struggling to make changes, or simply want to explore your experiences further, together we can courageously face these fears and work to create the lasting change you wish to see.”

As a student therapist, Gianna works under the supervision of a licensed professional to ensure the highest quality of care for her clients.

Specializations:

  • Trauma: I am trained to work with individuals who have experienced traumatic events, such as physical or emotional abuse, accidents, or natural disasters. My approach focuses on creating a sense of safety and security, allowing clients to process and integrate their traumatic experiences in a way that promotes healing and resilience.

  • Depression: I understand the complexities of depression and its impact on daily life. My therapy approach emphasizes building self-awareness, developing coping skills, and fostering a sense of hope and optimism to help clients manage symptoms and improve their overall mental health.

  • Anxiety: Anxiety can be overwhelming and debilitating. I use evidence-based techniques, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), to help clients identify and challenge negative thought patterns, develop coping strategies, and build confidence in managing anxiety.

  • Stress: Stress is a common experience that can affect anyone. I help clients develop effective stress management techniques, such as mindfulness and relaxation exercises, to improve their overall well-being and resilience.

  • Mindfulness: Mindfulness is a powerful tool for reducing stress, increasing self-awareness, and promoting emotional regulation. I incorporate mindfulness practices into my therapy sessions to help clients cultivate a greater sense of calm, clarity, and purpose.

  • Life-Transitions: Significant life changes, such as moving, graduating, or experiencing a major loss, can be challenging. I provide a supportive environment for clients to process their emotions, explore new possibilities, and develop coping strategies to navigate these transitions.

  • Self-Esteem: Building self-esteem is essential for overall mental health and well-being. I help clients develop a positive and compassionate relationship with themselves, challenge negative self-talk, and cultivate a sense of self-worth and confidence.

  • Athletes/Performance anxiety: Helping to navigate through times of transition periods out of sports and into college/working world/retirement, helping to develop coping skills, and work on feelings of anxiety and stress around performance and during transitions out of sports.

Modalities:

  • Strength-Based: I believe that every individual possesses unique strengths and resilience. My approach focuses on building upon these strengths, rather than dwelling on weaknesses, to promote personal growth and empowerment.

  • Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT): CBT is a research-backed approach that helps clients identify and change negative thought patterns, behaviors, and coping mechanisms. I use CBT to help clients develop more adaptive and effective ways of managing their mental health.

  • Person-Centered: I am committed to creating a safe and non-judgmental space for clients to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. My person-centered approach emphasizes empathy, understanding, and collaboration to promote a sense of autonomy and self-direction.
