Count Teeth with Tongue: Shift your focus away from stress by using your
tongue to count the number of teeth in your mouth.
Physiological Sigh: Ground yourself by taking two quick inhales through your nose,
followed by a slow, full exhale through your mouth.
Spaghetti Noodle: Inhale deeply and, as you exhale, imagine each body part relaxing like a noodle in water.
These techniques for stress relief are quick, simple, and accessible at any moment. They calm your nervous system and help you find clarity in stressful moments. Practicing regularly helps you remember them when you most need it.
As a Sex Counselor, I often guide clients in using these techniques to slow down and tune into their bodies, fostering a deeper connection with themselves and their partners. Pay attention to the subtle changes in your breath, body posture, and sensations throughout your day, specific circumstances, and/or when you’re thinking about a particular subject. Use them as clues to understand your experience, and then try out one of these practices. Cultivate a greater sense of equanimity both personally and in your relationships.
